GAIKINDO – Volkswagen Indonesia welcomed the arrival of the ID. BUZZ World Tour , a cross-continental expedition covering more than 80,000 kilometers across 75 countries. The journey is led by Rainer Zietlow, a holder of eight Guinness World Records and founder of Challenge4 GmbH, known for various long-distance expeditions with Volkswagen since 2005. The expedition began in Hannover, Germany, as part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Volkswagen Bus and serves as proof of the durability and efficiency of modern electric vehicles.
Indonesia became one of the key stops along the Southeast Asian route. The ID. BUZZ entered through Tanjung Priok Port and continued its journey to Semarang, Surabaya, and Bali.
The presence of this electric vehicle is regarded as a tangible example of the transition toward sustainable mobility in Indonesia. The vehicle is equipped with fast-charging technology of up to 200 kilowatts (kW), capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. This demonstrates the readiness of infrastructure and the reliability of electric vehicles across various road conditions in the Indonesian archipelago.
Zietlow said that Indonesia’s road conditions provide diverse challenges that prove the ID. BUZZ’s ability to travel long distances efficiently. He mentioned cabin comfort, driving range, and fast-charging capability as the main advantages of the vehicle. In 2012, he crossed Indonesia during an expedition from Melbourne to St. Petersburg using a Volkswagen Touareg, traveling by land and sea from Timor-Leste to Sumatra.
The ID. BUZZ arrived in Indonesia as a legendary symbol combined with future technology.
Powered by an electric motor producing 210 kilowatts (kW) and 560 newton meters (Nm) of torque, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) in 7.9 seconds and travel up to 487 kilometers (km) on a full charge, based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). PT Garuda Mataram Motor, the official distributor of Volkswagen in Indonesia, ensures worry-free ownership through free wall-charging installation, five years or 100,000 kilometers (km) of service, and an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer (km) battery warranty.
