GAIKINDO — The series of GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 exhibitions has now reached Makassar, South Sulawesi. GIIAS Makassar 2025 returns bigger than ever and in a brand-new location, the Summarecon Mutiara Makassar Convention Center (SMMCC). Taking place from November 5–9, 2025, the exhibition will showcase various innovations and the latest technologies from Indonesia’s automotive industry.
GIIAS Makassar marks the final stop of the GIIAS 2025 series, following previous exhibitions in several cities—Tangerang (Banten), Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), and Bandung (West Java). This event also marks GIIAS’s return to Makassar after a six-year hiatus. Its comeback represents a strategic move by the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) to strengthen the growth of the automotive industry in Eastern Indonesia.
Makassar, as the main gateway to Eastern Indonesia, plays an important role in the region’s automotive development. This is supported by a stable local economy—according to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), South Sulawesi’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2025 reached an impressive 5.78% year-on-year, a significant increase from 5.18% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Moreover, the expansion of the middle class and ongoing infrastructure development have boosted consumer purchasing power for motor vehicles. Data from BPS and the local Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) also show a consistent increase in the number of registered motor vehicles in Makassar and surrounding areas. Between February 2021 and February 2025, the number of motor vehicles grew at an average annual rate of 6.3%, with the most significant increase recorded between 2024 and 2025, reaching 13.16%.
This indicates strong potential for the automotive market in Eastern Indonesia and reinforces the strategic importance of holding GIIAS in Makassar. GAIKINDO Secretary General Kukuh Kumara noted that this market potential also convinced the association to bring GIIAS back to South Sulawesi. The presence of GIIAS in Makassar demonstrates that automotive industry growth is not only concentrated on the island of Java but is also accelerating across Eastern Indonesia.
“South Sulawesi currently ranks sixth in Indonesia, contributing 4.1% to total national vehicle sales from January to July 2025. This highlights the significant potential of this region in strengthening national automotive industry growth,” said Kukuh.
He added that GIIAS Makassar is expected to serve as the needed stimulus to maximize market performance in Eastern Indonesia.
GIIAS Makassar 2025 will feature a more comprehensive lineup of automotive brands than in previous years, with a total of 14 vehicle brands across four-wheel and two-wheel segments. Passenger vehicle brands include BAIC, BYD, Chery, Daihatsu, Honda, Jaecoo, Mitsubishi Motors, Suzuki, Toyota, and Wuling. Meanwhile, from the two-wheeler segment, brands such as Benelli, Kupprum, Scomadi, and Royal Enfield will participate. In addition, 11 automotive supporting industry brands will also take part, creating a more complete exhibition experience for visitors.
Abiyoso Wietono, Project Director of GIIAS, stated that GIIAS Makassar 2025 is being held in a new, larger, and more comfortable venue, bringing together more automotive brands and exciting programs for visitors. “This year’s GIIAS Makassar is a special moment as we aim to deliver a truly different exhibition experience from previous years,” said Abiyoso.
“With the new venue offering better facilities and broader participant support, we hope visitors can enjoy a wide range of automotive innovations in greater comfort and convenience,” he added.
All the excitement and automotive experiences can only be found during the five-day event of GIIAS Makassar 2025. The exhibition is powered by PLN Mobile, with additional sponsors Superchallenge and Kahf, adding vibrancy to various programs and activities throughout the event.
