GAIKINDO — The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) Makassar 2025 automotive exhibition officially opened today, Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The exhibition takes place at the new and larger venue, Summarecon Mutiara Makassar Convention Center (SMMCC), South Sulawesi. GIIAS Makassar 2025 serves as the closing event of the GIIAS The Series exhibition series throughout 2025. GIIAS Makassar 2025 also marks the return of GIIAS to Makassar after it was last held in 2019.

GIIAS Makassar 2025 was officially opened by the Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Setia Diarta. He was accompanied by the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, the Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), Putu Juli Ardika, and the Daily Chairman as well as the Chairman of GAIKINDO Exhibition and Conference Organizer, Anton Kumonty.

Setia Diarta expressed his support for the organization of GIIAS Makassar 2025. He hoped that the event would continue and even expand upon the success achieved in its previous editions held in several cities — Tangerang (Banten), Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), and Bandung (West Java).

The Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, expressed his appreciation and support for the organization of GIIAS Makassar 2025. He also thanked GAIKINDO for trusting the city to host Indonesia’s largest automotive event. He hoped that with the presence of GIIAS Makassar, the automotive industry in Makassar would continue to grow. “It is not only about holding an exhibition but also about following it up with other related activities that can boost automotive events, especially in Makassar,” said Munafri.

Anton Kumonty stated that GIIAS Makassar 2025 holds significant importance for the development of the national automotive industry, especially in eastern Indonesia. Makassar is the main gateway to Eastern Indonesia. The city plays an important role in the development of the national automotive sector. South Sulawesi Province ranks sixth nationally with a 4.1 percent contribution to total vehicle sales during the January–July 2025 period.

“This shows the great potential of the automotive market in this region, which forms the strategic basis for GIIAS Makassar’s return to strengthen the industry and present innovation to the public,” said Anton. (*)
