GAIKINDO Forecasts Hybrid Car Sales to Keep Rising in Indonesia

GRIDOTO – The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) predicts that hybrid car sales in Indonesia will continue to grow. GAIKINDO Secretary General Kukuh Kumara said that hybrid vehicle sales have remained stable and are showing growth despite a slowdown in the national automotive market. He believes this positive trend will continue in the coming period.

According to GAIKINDO data, wholesale hybrid car sales between January and September 2025 reached 47,450 units. This figure accounted for part of the total national sales of 561,819 units during the same period. The performance confirms that demand for hybrid technology vehicles remains strong amid fluctuations in the automotive market.

Throughout 2024, total hybrid car sales reached 56,906 units. That number represents an 8.25 percent increase compared to 2023, which recorded 52,568 units. This consistency demonstrates sustained growth in the hybrid segment over the past two years.

Kukuh explained that the increase in hybrid car sales aligns with the national automotive industry’s transition toward environmentally friendly vehicles. He emphasized that both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) play a crucial role in reducing emissions. Growth in this segment also reflects the industry’s support for the government’s net-zero emission program. Net-zero emission refers to a condition in which the amount of carbon emitted is balanced by the amount absorbed back by the environment. (*)
