Both Organized by GAIKINDO, GIIAS and GJAW Carry Different Concepts

KATADATA — The Mandiri Utama Finance – GAIKINDO Jakarta Auto Week (MUF–GJAW) 2024 automotive exhibition has been held. The event took place from 22 November to 1 December 2024 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) City, Tangerang (Banten)—the same venue used for the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).

In earlier years, the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) organized the JAW exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Jakarta. JAW is believed to have strong potential for significant future growth, giving the impression that its concept resembles that of GIIAS. However, GAIKINDO emphasizes that the two exhibitions have clear differences.

“GIIAS introduces automotive technology and industry advancements to visitors. JAW, on the other hand, is purely focused on sales, which is why it is held at the end of the year,” said Rizwan Alamsjah, GAIKINDO’s Deputy Chairman III, recently. He added that JAW will not replace GIIAS, but serves as a platform to boost sales.

He explained that GIIAS is an automotive exhibition organized by GAIKINDO with an international concept, recognized globally as one of the benchmark automotive shows. GIIAS also attracts more participants and is a venue for new model launches—both motorcycles and cars.

“During the exhibition, we create various gimmicks such as racing-related activities and others. We keep changing things to ensure visitors don’t get bored. Perhaps we’ll do the same again next year, but our main focus remains sales,” Rizwan said.

GAIKINDO is currently considering the use of larger venues for its automotive exhibition series. However, so far only ICE BSD City is capable of accommodating the growing number of participating brands. “There are more and more participants. That’s why we need to look for a bigger venue. But until a suitable place is found, we’ll stay here (at ICE BSD),” Rizwan added. (*)
