OLX NEWS – The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) Bandung 2025 has shown that enthusiasm for electric vehicles is now spreading to regional levels, particularly in West Java. During the exhibition, visitors demonstrated strong interest in various electrified vehicle models, signaling that the eco-friendly vehicle trend is starting to take root beyond Jakarta.
Among the brands showcased, the AION UT produced by GAC Indonesia stood out as one of the main highlights. The vehicle was named the “Most Driven EV,” recording 73 test drives — the highest among all brands. “This Most Driven EV award proves that the AION UT delivers performance, efficiency, and comfort that meet the expectations of Indonesian consumers,” said Andry Ciu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GAC Indonesia.
The AION UT is an electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) model from GAC Aion, a sub-brand of Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). The Chinese automaker has been operating in Indonesia since 2024. The model features a modern design, spacious cabin, and smart technology aimed at urban consumers who are beginning to transition to electric vehicles.
Data from GIIAS Bandung also shows that regional automotive exhibitions play a crucial role in accelerating the industry’s transition toward electrification. Beyond creating sales opportunities, these events also foster collaboration between local governments, industry players, and communities.
From an economic perspective, the presence of electric vehicle manufacturers such as GAC, Wuling, and Hyundai in West Java contributes to a ripple effect across the local automotive ecosystem. Assembly centers, spare parts distribution, and certified technician training have become integral parts of the growing supply chain in the region.
With expanding charging infrastructure and increasing purchasing power, West Java has the potential to become one of the fastest regions in Indonesia to adopt electric vehicles. The trend seen at GIIAS Bandung 2025 indicates that the future of electric cars in Indonesia is not only about technological innovation, but also about how quickly the industry can penetrate into regional markets.
