KONTAN.CO.ID – The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) reported that car sales from manufacturers to dealers (wholesales) in September 2025 reached 74,975 units.
This figure represents a 1.4 percent increase compared to August 2025, which recorded 73,949 units. However, retail sales from dealers to consumers fell by 0.9 percent to 72,285 units, down from 72,937 units in the previous month.

Cumulatively, from January to September 2025, total wholesales reached 666,028 units. This figure represents an 18.4 percent decline compared to the same period last year, which recorded 816,168 units. Meanwhile, retail sales reached 683,711 units, down 12.9 percent from 784,904 units during January–September 2024. This decline indicates weak domestic demand amid an economy that has yet to recover. Manufacturers continue to limit production to maintain balanced inventory levels at dealerships.

Manufacturers continue to limit production to maintain balanced inventory levels at dealerships. By brand, Toyota remained the market leader in September 2025 with 22,642 retail units sold. In fourth place, Suzuki recorded 4,837 units, while Mitsubishi Motors rounded out the top five with 4,600 units.

Toyota’s performance was supported by popular models such as the Avanza, Innova Zenix, and Raize. These models were the main contributors in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and sport utility vehicle (SUV) segments. Meanwhile, other brands such as Hyundai and Wuling have started strengthening their presence in the electric vehicle segment.

GAIKINDO assesses that the automotive market continues to face pressure due to weakened consumer purchasing power and adjustments in vehicle financing policies. Nevertheless, the launch of new models and growing interest in electric vehicles are expected to help sustain demand toward the end of 2025.
